The Bucks may add a surprise to their rotation for the
team's season opener against the Celtics on Friday. Rookie guard Doron Lamb
recently bounced back from a torn ligament, which caused him to miss nearly all
of training camp, performing well in a pair of preseason games for the Bucks.
Despite the down time, said head coach Scott Skiles, Lamb's first outings in a
Bucks jersey were encouraging enough to possibly get him some time on the court
in Boston.
The veteran coach did not just leave his comments at that, which
is a positive sign that we will be seeing a bit of the twenty-year-old sooner
than expected. Skiles added that during his two performances thus far, Lamb has
avoided playing beyond his talents, something that seems to plague younger players.
Skiles told reporters that he feels TD Gardens would be the perfect test on
that front, as he hopes to see Lamb continue to keep his head under the
excitement of his first meaningful professional match-up.
Luckily for Lamb, he is no stranger to pressure situations.
Playing two seasons for the Wildcats, the guard became a leader in the program,
earning a national title with the school in March. Lamb's two preseason
showings are also hefty signs that, despite his age, he continues to rise above
criticism and expectations. Combining for twenty-four points during over forty
minutes of play against Charlotte and Minnesota, the guard dispelled rumors
that he would be relegated to the back of the bench by season's start.
Lamb Might Replace An Ice Cold Monta Ellis
Beyond the sheer impressiveness of the rookie's return
following the injury, his play during the final two preseason games came at a
crucial time. Already lacking obvious talent at guard, starters Monta Ellis and
Brandon Jennings both had lackluster showings down-the-preseason-stretch. Ellis,
a major factor in Milwaukee's fifth best scoring offense last year, was just
one-for-eleven during the games against the Bobcats and Timberwolves, and gave
up five turnovers against Minnesota. Meanwhile, Jennings, the Bucks go-to-guy
over the past few years, gave up an equal amount of turnovers during the
exhibition game in Green Bay, and, while he managed nineteen points for the
night, he was barley over fifty-percent from the field.
